NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After starting the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships with a pair of singles wins, Newman fell to Florida’s highly-touted freshman, Lauren Embree in the third round of the qualifying draw at the Riviera Tennis Club Wednesday.
The Vanderbilt senior dropped a tight first set to Embree as she was defeated eight to four in a first-set tiebreaker before falling six games to love in the second. With the loss, Newman now falls into the consolation part of the qualifying draw.
