NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt women’s tennis coach Geoff Macdonald announced the signing of Ashleigh Antal to National Letter of Intent on Wednesday. Antal is tabbed as a five star recruit according to the tennisrecruiting.net recruiting service.
“We are thrilled that Ashleigh chose Vanderbilt, as we had identified her as one of the best rising talents in the country,” said Macdonald. “She is a great student as well as a great athlete and we think she’s going to have a big impact on Vanderbilt.”
A native of Wilmington, N.C., Antal is the second ranked player in the state of North Carolina and is currently in the top-50 players in the nation. A product of Laney High School, she currently ranks 46th in the nation and 17th in the southeast. She was a quarterfinalist in singles and a finalist in doubles at the International Spring Championships in 2009. In 2008, Antal won the Southern Open in singles and doubles, and also received the Sportsmanship Award at Greer Bullfrog.
Antal will join the Commodores in the fall of 2011.
