LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team got off to a blistering start at the Kentucky Invitational Friday as it went a combined 5-1 in singles and 5-0 in doubles. Jackie Wu, Keilly Ulery and Megan Gornet picked up straight set singles wins Friday while Hannah Blatt and Erica Robertson won in three sets.
In doubles, Vanderbilt’s tandem of Wu and Preeg won both of its matches in the Flight “A” draw while the team of Robertson and Heather Steinbauer went 2-0 in the Flight “B” draw. It marked the first time this fall that Steinbauer and Robertson have played doubles together in competition.
Preeg and Wu defeated Penn State’s team of Sarah Lotto and Maria Prishlyak 8-5 before dispatching Virginia’s pair of Hana Tomlijanovic and Neela Vaez. Robertson and Steinbauer defeated ACU’s Jaclyn Walker and Dina Pavlin 8-2 in the first round before topping Michigan’s tandem of Taylor Fournier and Kari Wig 8-6. VU’s team of Hannah Blatt and Keilly Ulery won their only match in doubles Friday as they knocked off Kaysara Mandry and Ashley Irvin 8-4.
