ATHENS, Ga. — Three members of the Vanderbilt women’s tennis team advanced to the Round of 32 at the 2007 NCAA Singles Championships.
Senior Amanda Fish, junior Amanda Taylor and freshman Catherine Newman all won their first round matches on Wednesday.
Fish defeated Richmond’s Pamela Duran in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. She will face Georgia Tech’s Krsti Miller at Noon ET on Thursday.
Taylor took out Southern Cal’s Sarah Fansler, 7-6 (5), 6-4, and will take on Baylor’s Zuzna Zemenova at 10 a.m. Thursday morning.
Newman made short work of Miami’s Laua Vallverdu, 6-4, 6-3. She will face Stanford’s Theresa Logar on Thursday at 1:30 p.m.
Following singles play, Fish and Taylor will team up to take on BYU’s Jenny Miccoli and Anastasia Surkova in the first round of the doubles draw. That match is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET.
All action is taking place at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia.
