MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt’s women’s tennis team wrapped up play at the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals in Murfreesboro on Saturday.
Amy Stevens and MaryAnn Rompf defeated Abel/Gibbins (Chattanooga), 8-5, in the Round of 32 but fell to Molina/Stevens (Kentucky), 8-4 in the Round of 16.
Meanwhile, Marcella Cruz and Dasha Kourkina won over Schmidt/Gupta (MTSU), 8-7 (4), to reach the Round of 16 where they fell to Mertena/Tomase (Tennessee), 8-1.
Holly Staff and Anessa Lee defeated Polishchuk/Davies (BSU), 8-4, in the Round 32 but fell to Carvijal/Elizarraras (ETSU), 8-6.
Cruz and Staff advanced to the Round of 16 in singles, but fell just short of the quarterfinals. Kourkina defeated Kentucky’s Elizabeth Stevens, 6-3, 7-6 (5), to reach the quarterfinals, but just missed the semifinals in a two-set defeat to Tennessee’s Elza Tomase, 7-5. 6-0.
Next up for the Commodores will compete at the Tennessee Fall Invitational in Knoxville on Oct. 28-31.
