NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Earning a 4-0 victory over Memphis, Vanderbilt women’s tennis team advances to the championship match of the ITA Kick-Off weekend.
In doubles play, the Commodores led all three courts with junior Christina Rosca and senior Summer Dvorak earning the Dores first doubles victory taking down Memphis’s Katherine Cao and Hannah Davies, 6-2.
Clinching the doubles point for Vandy, Emma Kurtz and Georgia Drummy held Tiger pair, Lina Hohnhold and Alisha Reayer to only three games, winning the match 6-3.
In singles, the Dores claimed the first set on all five courts while freshman Drummy scored the Dores second point of the match earning her third singles victory as a Commodore. The freshman defeated Memphis’s No. 4 seed Lina Hohnhold in a straight set, 6-1, 6-2.
Fellow freshman Carolyn Campana secured the Commodores third point taking down Aleks Topalovic, 6-3, 6-0 maintaining the lead the entire match.
Confirming the Dores spot in the ITA Kick-off championship match, No. 6-ranked senior Fernanda Contreras clinched the final point for the Commodores over Memphis defeating Laura Bente, 6-1, 6-2.
“Today was a very impressive day by the team. They’ve put in a lot of work the past few weeks in preparation for the ITA Kick-Off and it has definitely paid off. I am looking forward to seeing strong competition and extraordinary tennis tomorrow in the championship match,” said Head coach Geoff Macdonald.
The Dores will compete in the ITA Kick-Off championship match Saturday at 3 p.m. CT at the Vanderbilt Currey Tennis Center. The winner of the championship will advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Seattle, Washington on February 8-11.
Following the championship match, the Commodores will host a free kid’s clinic available to the public.
