CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team wrapped up the Miami Invitational, Sunday, going 8-2, to bring the weekend total to 21-10. The ‘Dores spit the morning doubles with Miami and swept the Longhorns in singles play.
The duo of Lauren Mira and Georgina Sellyn highlighted the doubles matches, upsetting No. 55 Brittany Dubins and Stephanie Wagner, 6-4. Frances Altick and Astra Sharma picked up the other doubles win, 6-3, over Riobueno and Zukowski.
Vanderbilt was dominant in singles play, sweeping the University of Texas. VU won five of its six matches in straight sets.
Sydney Campbell picked up her first singles win of the weekend over UT’s Kopricina, 6-3, 6-2. Sellyn, Altick, Sharma and Marie Casares all finished the weekend perfect in singles play.
Sharma picked up her second collegiate singles win, 6-2, 4-6, 11-9 over Juliana Gajic of the Longhorns. 48th-ranked Sellyn finished the weekend 3-0 by winning 7-5, 6-3 over Elizabeth Begley. Altick didn’t have any issues in her match, knocking off Lina Padegimaite, 6-3, 6-1.
Vanderbilt will be back in action next weekend when they open up dual play at the ITA Kick-off Weekend in Lincoln, Neb. The University of Nebraska Cornhuskers will act as the host and top seed, while the ‘Dores go in as the No. 3 seed.
Play begins on Saturday at 11 a.m., central time, against No. 2 seed Texas Tech. Nebraska will face off against fourth-seeded Georga Tech at 3 p.m.
