Women’s Tennis Ranked No. 12 With No. 2 Doubles Team 1/14/2004 The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team has been ranked No. 12 in a poll released today by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Six Commodores garnered individual accolades, constituting four singles and two doubles rankings. Seniors Kelly Schmandt and Aleke Tsoubanos, double champions of the 2003 ITA All-American, enter the 2004 spring season as the No. 2-ranked tandem in the nation. Juniors Audra Falk and Annie Menees come in as the No. 28 doubles team. In singles, Falk leads the way for the Commodores at No. 39. She posted a 10-2 record in the fall which included a trio of wins over ranked players. Freshman Amanda Fish, the 2003 ITA Summer Circuit Player of the Year, is ranked No. 66. Fish went 8-4 in her first semester with the Commodores, racking up wins over a number of highly-rated opponents. Sophomore Ashley Schellhas earned a No. 77 ranking, while Schmandt rounded the team out at No. 94. The 12th-ranked Commodores open their 2004 spring season on Friday, Jan. 16, with a match against Michigan State at the Brownlee O. Currey Jr. Tennis Center on the Vanderbilt campus.
