Women’s Tennis Grabs Five Singles Titles Sunday 10/1/2006 Greenville, S.C. — The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team took home first place finishes in five of the six singles flights on the final day of the Furman Fall Classic at the Minor Mickel Tennis Center on Sunday. Amanda Fish took honors in flight one singles with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 victory over teammate Amanda Taylor. Taka Bertrand claimed the flight two singles crown with a come-from-behind 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 win over Tennessee’s Vicky Jones. Catherine Newman (Flight 4), Liberty Sveke (Flight 5) and Caroline Ferrell (Flight 6) rounded out the Commodores strong singles play. South Carolina’s Ana Zubori helped the rest of the eight team field avoid the singles sweep with a 6-4, 7-6 (3) victory against Vandy’s Courtney Ulery in the flight three finals. |
