Women’s Netters Final in Miami 11/13/2005 Miami, Fla. — The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team concluded the three-day Hurricane Fall invite with some wins by a couple of freshman. Freshmen Courtney Ulery (Wellington, Fla.) and Liberty Sveke (Sarasotat, Fla.) teamed up to defeat Miami’s Caren Seenauth and Emily Mowery, 8-3. The duo also won both of their singles matches. Sveke, an easy 6-2, 6-3 winner, defeated Iowa’s Merel Beelen. Ulery, facing the Hawkeyes’ Jacqueline Lee, used a third set to win 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. Ulery had one of the most successful weekends for the Commodores, as she won all three of her doubles matches with three different partners. She went 1-2 in singles. Another freshman, Maggie Yahner (Las Vegas, Nev.), led the Commodores in singles, compiling a 2-1 mark, while going 1-2 in doubles, including an 8-3 loss to Florida International while paired with Iowa’s Krissy Dowlin. Overall on the weekend the team went 3-4 in doubles and 6-9 in singles, as it was again without the services of junior Amanda Fish (Scituate, Mass.) the No. 17-ranked player in the nation, as well as sophomore Amanda Taylor (Richland, Wash.) |
