Win Streak Continues

Vanderbilt wins fifth straight match, debuts new outdoor facility

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — In its final nonconference matches of the 2026 season, Vanderbilt women’s tennis picked up two wins over Xavier and Lipscomb at the Lummis Family Tennis Center on Friday.

The Commodores opened the day in a rematch from last season’s NCAA Tournament with Xavier (2-4). Vandy got the ball rolling at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to secure the early doubles point. The black and gold continued the momentum in singles, spearheaded by sophomore Trinetra Vijayakumar and freshman Erin Pearce. Vijayakumar quickly notched a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Ellasyn Deford before Pearce followed suite at No. 5 singles with a 6-4, 6-3 defeat of Clara Owen. Vanderbilt produced wins in three of the four remaining matches to pull away from the Musketeers 6-1.

Vandy’s matchup against Lipscomb (3-2) moved the Commodores outside for their first match at the newly renovated outdoor facility. No. 10 ranked junior Valeria Ray and senior Bridget Stammel set the tone at No. 2 doubles, sinking Serafima Bobrovnikova and Mariia Dolzhenko 6-2. The result marks the eighth straight for Ray and Stammel. The No. 64 ranked freshmen duo of Pearce and Mia Yamakita clinched the doubles point after taking down Martina Bovio and Kameliia Tytarenko 6-2. The Commodores have now won six doubles points in a row.

Pearce again sprinted to the finish, moving past Bobrovnikova 6-0, 6-1. No. 34 Mohr took care of business at No. 1 singles in a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Sofiia Paladi. It was No. 42 Stammel to deliver the Dores their fifth consecutive win after downing Deborah Dominguez Collado 6-3, 6-1. Vanderbilt collected wins at each remaining court to generate a 7-0 sweep of Lipscomb, capped off by a 6-2, 3-6, 11-9 triumph in a nail-biter between Ray and Dolzhenko.

“Today was an incredibly special day for our program as we competed for the first time on our brand new outdoor courts at the Lummis Family Tennis Center,” head coach Aleke Tsoubanos said. “We truly believe this is one of the nicest outdoor tennis facilities in the country, and it was an amazing feeling to be back competing on our home courts. I’m especially happy for our upperclassmen to have the opportunity to compete on these courts again this spring. On behalf of our staff and student-athletes, I extend my sincerest gratitude to Dr. Candice Lee for her vision, leadership and commitment to making the Vanderbilt experience second to none. We are equally grateful to the Lummis Family and other benefactors, whose generous support turned that vision to reality.”

“Ending our nonconference slate in a positive way with two victories made the day even more meaningful,” Tsoubanos concluded. “We can’t wait to host our first SEC matches here soon, and we look forward to welcoming our fans to enjoy this spectacular facility.”

Vanderbilt closes the book on nonconference play and turns its focus to SEC action. The Commodores play host to Missouri (6-2) on Sunday with first serve set for 1:30 p.m at the Lummis Family Tennis Center.
