Williams Named SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year Again

The Vanderbilt men's golf senior becomes the first Commodore to win the award in back-to-back seasons, while he is the eighth SEC golf to capture multiple SEC Scholar Athlete awards

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Vanderbilt senior Wells Williams was named the 2025-26 SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the league’s coaches on Friday, as he was honored for his work in the classroom and on the course for the second-straight season.

Williams becomes the first Commodore to be named SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year in back-to-back seasons. The West Point, Mississippi, native becomes just the eighth SEC golfer ever to accomplish the feat. Williams’ selection marks the third-straight season a Commodore men’s golfer has earned SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year honors.

Since being established in the 2003-04 season, Vanderbilt has had four student-athletes win SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year, which includes Williams (2024-25, 2025-26), Cole Sherwood (2023-24), Theo Humphrey (2017-18) and Ryan Haselden (2010-11).

The senior is a two-time SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll and was on the 2023 SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll. Additionally, Williams was a 2024-25 GCAA All-America Scholar. The Anthropology major holds a cumulative GPA of 3.86 at Vanderbilt.

On the course, Williams leads the Commodores in scoring average this season at 70.10 through 30 rounds. The senior has posted seven top-10 finishes in 2025-26 and has had his score count in 28 of the team’s 30 rounds. Williams holds a career scoring average of 70.86 through his four seasons as a Dore. His three individual medals over the course of his collegiate career are tied for fourth-most in program history.
