Vanderbilt women's tennis welcomes Kentucky to Nashville for Friday matinee

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — No. 13 Vanderbilt women’s tennis rounds out the regular season with two home matches, beginning with Kentucky on Friday at the Lummis Tennis Center.

The Dores enter tomorrow having won four of the last five matches, with the one loss being a 4-3 defeat at No. 1 Georgia. They remain at No. 13 in this week’s ITA team rankings. Freshman Trinetara Vijayakumar brought home weekly honors for Vandy after being named SEC Freshman of the Week on Wednesday. It is the second consecutive Freshman of the Week award for the Dores with freshman Sophia Webster capturing the honor last week. No. 48-ranked junior Bridget Stammel and senior Amy Stevens both ride five-match singles win streaks into Friday’s matchup. In doubles, Webster along with senior Célia-Belle Mohr continue as the No. 14 ranked duo.

Kentucky ended a three-match losing streak with wins over Florida and Bellarmine last weekend. The Wildcats sit at eleventh in the SEC standings and will look to end overcome a six-match skid in the series. They hold a 36-20 record over Vanderbilt, but have not secured a match victory since March of 2017. Zoe Hammond leads the Wildcats in the ITA singles rankings at No. 40 with a 13-6 dual match record this season. Julia Zhu is the other member of the team ranked in singles at No. 80. Both have already suffered defeats to Vanderbilt this year; Stammel knocked off Hammond in the quarterfinals of the ITA Ohio Valley Regional while No. 81-ranked sophomore Valeria Ray downed Zhu in the round of 16 at the ITA Sectional Championships. The Wildcats’ Elizabeth Eades and Elizabeth Stevens are No. 57 as the lone ranked doubles pairing
