Weekly Honors Accumulate For Dores

Diego Pavia collects three awards for leading Vandy to win over Virginia Tech

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia picked up a trio of weekly awards on Tuesday after leading the Commodores to a 34-27 overtime victory against Virginia Tech.

Pavia was named a Manning Award Star of the Week, to the Davey O’Brien Great 8 for the week and the Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Offensive Player of the Week.

Pavia wasn’t the only Vandy player recognized by the TSWA, as linebacker Bryan Longwell was named the organization’s defensive player of the week.

Pavia accounted for 269 yards of total offense in the win over the Hokies. He was 12-of-16 passing for 190 yards and two scores, while rushing for a game-high 104 yards and the game-winning touchdown in overtime.

He was the only Power 4 signal-caller to eclipse 100 yards in both passing and rushing during Week 1 and the first Commodore QB to accomplish the feat since 2022.

Longwell had a career-best nine total tackles, including assisting on a tackle for loss. He broke up a pass that resulted in an interception by Glenn Seabrooks III, setting up Vanderbilt’s first touchdown drive of the game.

Longwell helped anchor a Vanderbilt defense that held Virginia Tech to just 75 yards rushing and 2.5 yards per carry. It marked the first time the Dores held a Power 4 opponent under 100 rushing yards in a game since 2022.

Pavia, Longwell and the rest of the Commodores return to action on Saturday when Alcorn State visits FirstBank Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. and tickets are still available. Click here to buy tickets today.
