Commodore Notes
The Commodores split the week, going 2-2 with wins over Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday and against No. 16 Oklahoma on Thursday.
Vanderbilt recorded its second shutout of the season in a 3-0 win over EKU in the midweek contest. Connor Hamilton, Jacob Faulkner, Nate Taylor, Miller Green, Nate Schlote, Luke Guth and Tyler Baird all worked at least one inning in the win. Faulkner earned the victory with three innings of work and Baird took the save.
Vandy opened up the series with the 16th-ranked Sooners on Thursday, taking the first game 10-5. Mike Mancini and Connor Fennell led the way for the Commodores. At the plate, Mancini went 3-for-5 with two home runs, a double and six RBI. On the mound, Fennell held the Sooners to three runs over 7.1 innings and struck out 10 batters without surrendering a walk.
Oklahoma won the second game 13-11 and took the finale on Saturday 6-5.
Vanderbilt visits Lipscomb on Tuesday at 6 p.m. before heading to Kentucky to take on the Wildcats for a three-game series beginning Friday.
In 15 SEC games, Mancini is hitting .321 with eight home runs and 18 RBI and 15 walks. He leads the league in home runs and OPS and is fourth in RBI. On the season, Brodie Johnston ranks second among SEC hitters in base hits and is eighth in batting average.
