Commodore Notes
Vanderbilt won the series at ranked LSU last weekend, winning the second two games after falling in the series opener on Thursday. Jayden Davis was named the SEC Co-Player of the Week after leading all SEC hitters with a .583 average. Davis went 7-for-12 in the series and drove in eight runs with a home run and three doubles.

LSU jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the opener on Thursday. The Commodores chipped away and cut LSU’s lead down to three before falling, 6-10.

On Friday, Vanderbilt scored three runs in the final two innings to even the series with an 8-6 win. In a game that featured six lead changes, Davis’ go-ahead, two-run home run in the top of the eighth put Vanderbilt in front for good. Ethan McElvain tossed 3.1 scoreless innings with four strikeouts and two hits allowed to earn his first collegiate win.

The Commodores poured it on in Game 3 to run-rule the Tigers 13-3 in eight innings. Vanderbilt scored the game’s first five runs and scored in all eight innings. The run support proved plenty as starting pitcher Carter Holton turned in his fourth consecutive quality start. The southpaw tossed 6.0 innings and allowed two earned runs while striking out 10. Holton has 10 or more strikeouts in three of his last five starts and has eight or more strikeouts in six of seven starts this season.

At the plate, Braden Holcomb homered twice and drove in five runs on a 3-for-5 day. Jayden Davis went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored. Vandy totaled 14 hits and seven of the nine starters tallied an RBI.

With the series win, Vanderbilt sits in second place in the SEC East with an 8-4 record.

The Commodores are back at Hawkins Field on Tuesday to host Middle Tennessee at 4 p.m. on SEC Network+. The Commodores and Blue Raiders will be meeting for the 149th time with Vandy leading the series 101-47.

Vandy then travels to College Station, Texas, to take on No. 3 Texas A&M. Game 2 in the series will air on SEC Network.
