Commodore Notes
Vanderbilt went 3-1 on the week and claimed the road series at Missouri with wins on Thursday and Saturday. The Commodores scored runs in each of the first three innings Tuesday night en route to an 8-1 victory over Western Kentucky at Hawkins Field. Greysen Carter got the start on the bump for the Commodores and held WKU scoreless through four innings, only giving up one hit. RJ Austin led the Dores with a two-hit night. The freshman drove in a pair of runs as well. Vandy held off a late rally by Missouri in Thursday’s series opener. Chris Maldonado drove in a pair of runs on a 2-for-4 night and Matthew Polk homered for the fourth time this season. Ryan Ginther (W, 1-0) earned his first win on the season with two scoreless innings of work. Missouri pushed four runs across in the bottom of the eighth but Vanderbilt held on to win 7-6. The Tigers responded with a walk-off win in Game 2 Friday night to even the series. Vanderbilt used another impressive outing from Devin Futrell on Saturday to win 5-0 and claim the series on the road. Futrell gave the Commodores 7.1 shutout innings and recorded six strikeouts while holding Missouri to five hits. Futrell hasn’t allowed a run over his last 15.1 innings of work. Austin tallied three RBIs on the day to provide Futrell with more than enough run support.

Vanderbilt returns home to host North Alabama at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Hawkins Field. The Commodores then host a three-game series with South Carolina beginning Friday. Vanderbilt is No. 4 in this week’s D1Baseball poll while South Carolina is No. 6. All four games this week will air on SEC Network+.
