Commodore Notes
Vanderbilt stretched its win streak to 12 games with a three-game sweep of Wagner. The Commodores outscored the Seahawks 40-12 in the series, scoring double-digit runs in all three games and a season-high 15 runs in the finale on Sunday. The Seahawks took a 7-4 lead in the fifth inning in Game 1 of Friday’s doubleheader. The Vanderbilt offense rallied for eight unanswered runs across the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to take control. Patrick Reilly (2-0) collected the win, working 4.1 innings in relief. Vanderbilt began Game 2 with a six-run first inning. Carter Holton turned in another spectacular outing for the Commodores in Game 2. The freshman southpaw worked 6.0 scoreless innings, allowing one hit while striking out a career-high 13 batters. Holton was perfect through his first 4.1 innings of work before issuing a walk in the top of the fifth. The Savannah, Georgia, native held the Seahawks hitless through 5.2 frames. Vanderbilt’s offense continued to roll on Sunday. Dominic Keegan and Gavin Casas drove in four runs each and nine different Commodores scored a run. The Dores totaled eight doubles, most since the team recorded eight at Clemson on June 3, 2017. Hunter Owen (2-0) earned the win in relief with 4.0 innings of work. Vanderbilt has homered in eight consecutive games, totaling 15 long balls over that span.
