The Commodores went 1-3 last week with a run-rule win over Evansville at home on Tuesday followed by losses to UC Irvine, Arizona and Oregon at the Live Like Lou Las Vegas College Classic over the weekend.

Vanderbilt used two grand slams to knock off Evansville, 15-3, in seven innings at Hawkins Field. Vandy has hit four grand slams this season, already surpassing last season’s total.

Braden Holcomb, reigning SEC Player of the Week, drove in six runs with a grand slam and a two-run homer. Mike Mancini recorded Vandy’s other grand slam, an opposite-field blast in the bottom of the second that broke the game open.

The offense was slowed over the weekend in Las Vegas. Vanderbilt trailed Oregon by six runs on Sunday before hitting three homers in the eighth inning to cut the deficit down to two. The Dores loaded the bases in the ninth but Oregon held on to win, 6-4.

Vanderbilt begins a 10-game homestand with five home games this week. The Commodores host Central Arkansas on Tuesday, Troy on Wednesday followed by a three-game set with North Dakota State beginning Friday.
