Commodore Notes
The Commodores opened the 2026 campaign at the Shriners Children’s College Showdown at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. Vandy went 1-2, narrowly losing to top-10 TCU on Friday before run-ruling Texas Tech on Saturday. The Dores dropped the finale to Oklahoma State on Sunday.

Vanderbilt belted nine home runs over the three games and are tied for the most home runs in Division I after the weekend. Colin Barczi hit three home runs, all no-doubters, in the season-opener against No. 10 TCU on Friday to become the first Commodore since Connor Kaiser in 2018 with three homers in a single game. Johnston hit two out of the park in the win over Texas Tech on Saturday. Braden Holcomb also shined at the plate, picking up five RBI in a single inning in the win over the Red Raiders. Making his Vanderbilt debut, Logan Johnstone went 5-for-11 with a home run and two doubles in his first three games as a Commodore.

On the mound, all three starting pitchers turned in strong performances. Connor Fennell set the tone on Opening Day against a potent TCU offense. Fennell held the Horned Frogs to two runs on two hits over 5.1 with seven strikeouts to one walk. Austin Nye followed on Saturday with four frames, striking out six and allowing one run that was unearned. Nate Taylor made his Vandy debut Sunday against Oklahoma State. Taylor allowed two runs on two hits over 4.1 innings with seven strikeouts.

Vanderbilt returns to Nashville this week for six consecutive home games beginning with a pair of midweek contests against Eastern Michigan on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Dores welcome Marist to Hawkins Field this weekend for a three-game series. All games this week will stream on SECN+.
