Commodore Notes
Vanderbilt opened its 2023 campaign at Globe Life Field at the College Baseball Showdown, collecting wins over No. 9 Oklahoma State on Saturday and Texas on Sunday after falling to No. 15 TCU on Friday. The Dores pushed 23 runs across in the pair of wins, defeating Oklahoma State 11-9 and Texas 12-2. Jonathan Vastine hit his first collegiate home run on Friday and finished the weekend 5-for-11 with four RBI. Parker Noland doubled and tripled and drove in four runs as well. Freshman RJ Austin tallied multi-hit performances in both wins and drove in three runs. Vandy notched five triples on the weekend, tied for most in NCAA DI. Devin Futrell and Bryce Cunningham combined for an impressive outing on the mound in Sunday’s win over Texas. Futrell got the start and held Texas to two runs on three hits while striking out five over five frames. Cunningham no-hit the Longhorns over the final four innings with seven strikeouts.

The Commodores start a six-game homestand with games against Central Arkansas and UAB on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively. Both games will begin at 4:30 p.m. with action streaming on SEC Network+. The Dores then welcome No. 17 UCLA to town for a three-game series beginning Friday.
