NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team earned more conference weekly award recognition as Sophia Webster brought home SEC Co-Freshman of the Week honors on Wednesday.
Webster notched two singles victories against No. 6 LSU and Ole Miss, propelling then-No. 16 Vanderbilt to consecutive wins. The freshman downed Kenna Erickson in a 5-2 trounce of the Tigers before defeating Rachel Krzyzak 6-2, 6-2 against the Rebels on Sunday. Webster is now 7-3 in her last 10 singles matches and has won three straight, all at the No. 5 position. In doubles, Webster and senior Célia-Belle Mohr picked up their fifth ranked victory over No. 71 Ludmila Kareisová and Anaëlle Leclercq of Ole Miss. The pair are 19-6 in total this season, which includes a 5-2 record against ranked doubles opponents. Mohr and Webster remain at No. 14 in the most recent ITA doubles rankings.
It is Webster’s first career SEC award. She joins Mohr and sophomore Valeria Ray as Commodores to be named in a weekly award this season. Vanderbilt has not produced a Freshman of the Week since now-senior Amy Stevens earned the honor in 2022.
No. 13 Vanderbilt continues its gauntlet of a conference schedule with a visit to No. 1 Georgia on Friday. For more information, updates and exclusive game day content, follow the Vanderbilt women’s tennis team, @VandyWTennis, on Instagram and X.
