Women’s Basketball Season Tickets Start at $25
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt women’s basketball team opens the 2007-08 preseason with an exhibition game against nearby Cumberland University on Wednesday, Oct. 31, at 7 p.m. CT inside Memorial Gymnasium.
“We are excited to get in front of our fans for the first time this fall,” VU Head Coach Melanie Balcomb said. “The team has been competing extremely hard for the past few weeks, and everyone is looking forward to facing some new competition.”
Balcomb returns nine players from the 2007 Southeastern Conference Tournament Championship squad, including a pair of starters in juniors Jennifer Risper and preseason All-SEC selection Christina Wirth. Center Liz Sherwood, a two-time “Sixth Woman of the Year” choice in the league, is the team’s lone senior.
Wednesday will be the first opportunity for fans to see four freshmen standouts that joined the team this fall, as center Rebecca Silinski (Birmingham, Ala.), forward Hannah Tuomi (Thornton, Colo.) and guards Chanel Chisholm (Long Island, N.Y.) and Jence Rhoads (Slippery Rock, Pa.) are all expected to make their Commodore debuts.
Tickets for the preseason contest are $5 for adults and $3 for children. Season tickets for the entire 2007-08 schedule, which includes two exhibition games and a total of 17 regular season contests, start at $25 for lower bowl seats.
Following the Cumberland game, the Commodores will continue their preparations for the 2007-08 season by playing host to their final preseason exhibition game on Monday, Nov. 5, when Anderson University (S.C.) visits Memorial Gym for a 7 p.m. tip-off. Vanderbilt opens the regular season on Friday, Nov. 9, when UAB travels to the Music City.
