GREENVILLE, S.C. – The weekend trend of rain continued into Sunday’s tournament action as the Commodores competed in the Palmetto state at the Furman Fall Classic.
While seniors Frances Altick and Courtney Colton were scheduled to battle in flight championships, weather delays allowed only two members of the No. 1 Vanderbilt tennis team to compete.
Freshmen Fernanda Contreras and Summer Dvorak got one match in apiece before the Commodores left to head back home to Nashville. While both freshmen performed outstandingly in doubles and yesterday’s one single match, they both fell in singles action to two conference foes.
Contreras fell to South Carolina’s Berg in a hard-fought 4-6, 6-3, 1-0(1) match. Laguna Beach, Calif. native, Dvorak, fell in a third set tiebreaker of her own, 6-3, 1-6, 1-0(9), to Tennessee’s Repic.
Vanderbilt will return to practice Tuesday afternoon, as several Commodores wait to find out if they will be competing in the 2015 Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championship, which begins Oct. 3rd.
Sunday Results:
F3 Repic (UT) def. Dvorak (VU), 6-3, 1-6, 1-0(9)
F4 Berg (USC) def. Contreras (VU), 4-6, 6-3, 1-0(1)
