VU Women Host UT Martin in NCAA First Round

The No. 4 Vanderbilt women’s tennis team is slated to host No. 49-64 UT Martin in the Opening Round of the 2005 NCAA Tournament on Friday, May 13 at 3:00 p.m.
The Commodores were awarded a regional by the NCAA on Wednesday afternoon, meaning a total of four squads including the Dores will play the First and Second Rounds in Nashville, with the winner heading off the Sweet Sixteen in Athens, Ga. The Commodores are set to face in-state foe UT Martin, who claimed the Ohio Valley Conference Championship Tournament and posted an overall record of 17-3 in 2005. The Skyhawks chalked up a perfect, 9-0 record in OVC play including the title clinching win over Murray State, 4-3. Head Coach Geoff Macdonald’s Dores enter the match taking seven of 10 contests to end regular season play, including tremendous road wins over No. 2 Kentucky and No. 4 Georgia. Also attending the Nashville regional will be SEC rival Alabama who is slated to face off against Sun Belt member and No. 27 South Alabama. Their match time is slated for 11:00 a.m. The winner of the Vanderbilt/UT Martin match will take on the Alabama/South Alabama winner on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. for a berth in the Sweet Sixteen.
