Ole Miss Acting Head Coach Tony Madlock
Opening statement…
“Just one of those nights. Defensively, we couldn’t get stops. The first half we had a couple times where we had five or six or seven stops in a row and were able to get up seven. We just kind of let go of the ropes a little bit and just didn’t defend like we needed to. That was a good three-point shooting team. That was the game plan, we cannot let them get off clean with threes and for them to make 12 is unacceptable. When you are not making shots, it affects our defense and that shouldn’t happen. That’s kind of been the story all year.”
Going into the SEC tournament…
“Those guys are hurting in there, especially those seniors. We talked about it being a new season. It is a fresh start so now we are going to get back to work Monday and get ready for Wednesday night. We know where we are. We know the year we have had, so now let’s go in and give it everything we have. There is no tomorrow, we know that, so if you lose you are done.”
On how it has been to keep the team motivated…
“They have been motivated. The second half tonight we maybe didn’t show it as much, but if you look at the games we have played, to go to Missouri, how we played Tennessee, Kentucky, the second half of this game just wasn’t what we wanted it to be. They played hard, they are motivated, so I am proud of them. It is just a matter of now trying to reset.”
Vanderbilt Head Coach Bryce Drew
Opening statement…
“I am proud of these guys. We have been outmatched and over-maned most of the year. They have really fought, battled and stayed together. We have talked about character. Forget about the game, who you are as a person is going to come out when adversity hits like this. We have been changing our routines on the road. We changed our routine drastically this trip and we changed everything in the pregame and came out pretty lose and thought we played really as well as we have on the road all year. As far as the momentum, every team in this league is good. I think it is going to be pretty wild to see who ends up in the semifinals or championship because it’s open across the road. Hopefully we can get hot and give us a chance to win some games.”
On changing up the routine…
“We changed our pregame talk a little bit, last night we went to a movie and had a really good time and then got focused today. Our two seniors set a really good tone in the locker room and our guys followed through.”
On the offensive success…
“At home, we have really played offensively like we did today. We moved the ball, we shot better at home. It was nice that it became contagious like it did today. When we can get in a lane and make an extra pass, you have to make shots. This is the best we have shot from three on the road, and I thought Max Evans and Clevon Brown were big on that. They were four for five combined, and that was something we were missing.”
