Head Coach Tim Corbin
On winning a close game today after the late game last night:
We did a good job, getting the win last night then coming here after about five hours of sleep. Now, I thought that we were a bit sloppy at times. We gave the runs in the middle of the game and gave up some walks. I told these guys, ‘It’s good to play these close games if you win them.’
On the value of playing in good, close games:
You get used to playing at a high anxiety level. Not that you want to play at that level, but it’s good to know that you can play through it and you will be better the next time it happens. Even though we may have not thought we should have been in that position (losing a big lead in the game), we were and I thought we handled it well. I thought Russell was a little bit anxious, but settled down and did a nice job. We closed it down and it was great.
On Richie Goodenow:
We talked about it and I thought Richie was going to be big in this game. I told him that in the line-up today there were alot of lefties and he would be pretty effective and he was. He came in and pitched into the latter part of the game before getting tired a little bit. We hadn’t stretched him out much and I think that Richie can be an effective pitcher if we get him stretched out.

On the team winning the game:
It was alot of fun, we came out ready to play after a long, tough night. We came back and rebounded, I thought we did pretty well. We faded a little bit at the end, but had the defense and pitching to get it done.
On overcoming the loss on Friday night to UCLA:
Stuff like that happens. It’s one game. You learn from it. That’s the great thing about baseball, you have a bad game or a bad couple of games, but you can just leave it behind you and play the next game.
On hitting a HR in Dodger Stadium:
It felt pretty good (to hit the homerun), especially since after the last couple of games and I have been getting pretty anxious. I talked to a couple of coaches and finally just decided that I needed to stop thinking about it, just go out and have fun. It was a good experience just to be able to play here.
