Team Notes
* Vanderbilt is now 20-17 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. VU is 17-11 in the NCAA Tourney under Tim Corbin. Prior to Corbin’s arrival in 2003, the Commodores were 3-6 in three previous appearances.
* Vanderbilt is playing in its second ever NCAA Super Regional. VU played in the Austin Super Regional against Texas in 2004.
* Vanderbilt is playing in its fifth straight NCAA Tourney. VU has made the NCAA tourney six times in eight seasons under Corbin.
* All five of Vanderbilt’s home runs in the NCAA Super Regional have been solo shots. VU hit four solo homers on Friday and one today.* Vanderbilt’s win on Saturday against Florida State marked the program’s first win in the NCAA Super Regional round. VU is 1-3 in the Super Regional.
* Florida State now leads the all-time series with Vanderbilt 3-2. The two teams met in a three-game series in 1972 with VU winning the first game and FSU rebounding to win the next two.
Individual Notes
* Jason Esposito’s third-inning solo home run marked his 12th home run of the season and 16th of his career. Esposito has hit three home runs in his last six games.
* In three post-season appearances including action today, Grayson Garvin has allowed just three runs on 14 hits over 15.2 innings. The 1.72 ERA over that span, combined with 13 strikeouts have been huge. Garvin’s three-inning save today was the first of his career.
* Sonny Gray allowed two runs on seven hits in six innings of work to improve to 10-5 on the year. Gray’s 10 wins this season ties Jeremy Sowers (2004) and Jack Nuismer (1979) for fourth on the single season all-time list. The 10-wins in a season is the most a VU pitcher has recorded since the 2007 season when David Price (won 11 games) and Casey Weathers (won 12).
* Curt Casali went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and a run scored. In two games in the Super Regional. Curt Casali is 6-for-8 with 4 RBI and a run scored in two games of the Super Regional. Casali was a triple away from the cycle on Friday while tying a career high with four hits. In the last four games of the postseason, Casali is hitting (10-for-16) with 6 RBI and three runs scored.
