BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Vanderbilt swimming and diving team concluded competition at the Hilltopper Invitational, finishing third in the three-day event with 456 points. Western Kentucky won the event with 1051 points, while Evansville finished second at 486 points.
Freshman Leigh-Ann Axt won her third race in as many days as she set a new Bill Powell Natatorium record in the 200-yard butterfly. Axt finished the race with a time of 2:04.45, over eight seconds faster than the second-place finisher, Ady Sekely of Evansville.
Freshman Alex Jennings recorded a solid finish in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing third. Jennings recorded a time of 2:12.19. Mallory Neltner and Marissa Heebner of Western Kentucky finished first and second, respectively.
Freshman Jennifer Molchan notched a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle after finishing with a time of 53.83.
The Commodores finished the invitational on a good note, finishing second in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Molchan, Christina Chao, Jennings and Axt finished the race with a time of 3:38.66.
The Hilltopper Invite concludes the fall 2007 portion of Vanderbilt’s schedule. Vanderbilt returns to action on Friday, January 11, when the Commodores host their first home meet since 1992 as Miami (FL) comes to the Centennial Sportsplex. Meet time is still to be determined.
