BATON ROUGE, La. – The Vanderbilt women’ tennis team rebounded from a loss to Florida last weekend with a 7-0 sweep of LSU Friday afternoon.
Jackie Wu and Lauren Mira got the Commodores off to a strong start with an 8-3 win on court two. Rachael Dillon and Alex Leatu followed that up with an 8-3 win of their own on court two, and clinched the doubles point for Vanderbilt. In the No. 3 match, Keilly Ulery and Chelsea Preeg rallied back from a 6-3 deficit to tie the match at 7-7, but were unable to hold off LSU’s Olivia Howlett and Ariel Morton, and fell 9-7.
Playing in the No. 2 singles match, Wu defeated Howlett, 6-1, 6-2 to give the Dores a 2-0 lead. Dillon increased Vanderbilt’s with a 6-3, 6-2 win in the No. 5 match. Leatu clinched the win for the Commodores with a 6-3, 6-0 win over 66th-ranked Whitney Wolf on court one.
Preeg, Ulery and Mira all won their matches to complete the sweep of the Tigers. On court three, Preeg dropped her first set, 4-6, but tied the mach with a 6-2 win in the second set, and won the tiebreaker set 10-6 to give the Commodores a 5-0 advantage. Ulery and Mira both played close first sets, with Ulery winning 7-5 on court six and Mira claiming a 7-6(4) victory on court three. Both posted wins in the second set to wrap up the match.
