World Series Bound
The Vandy Boys will be represented in the World Series when it opens next week in Cleveland. The Indians topped Toronto in five games to punch their ticket to the Fall Classic for the first time since 1997 and along with that brought four former Commodores to the biggest baseball series in the world. Former Dores Carter Hawkins, Tony Mansolino and David Wallace all work in the Cleveland organization along with former VU coach Larry Day.
Hawkins serves as the Director of Player Development with Mansolino, Wallace and Day all occupying positions on the field for the Indians’ minor league teams. Wallace managed Double-A Akron to the Eastern League title this past summer. Mansolino managed the Indians’ Single-A team in Lake County while Day served as the hitting coach at Single-A Lynchburg.
Former Commodore Gil Kim was on the losing end of the American League Championship Series for the Blue Jays, who hired him as their Director of Player Development last offseason.
In the National League Championship Series, former Vandy Boy Jack Lupo is working with the Chicago Cubs’ front office.
