Athens, Ga. – Wrapping up the Bulldog Classic on Sunday, the Vanderbilt women’s tennis team capped its final day of competition by taking on Illinois in singles play. The Dores claimed four victories out of five matches.
Freshman Carolyn Campana and senior Emily Smith both defeated ranked Illinois opponents with Campana taking on No. 93 Asuka Kawai in a straight-set victory, 6-2, 6-0. Later, Smith defeated No. 48-ranked Jaclyn Switkes, 6-4, 6-3.
No. 30-ranked Commodore Christina Rosca continued the Dores’ winning streak by defeating Illinois’ Emilee Duong in a straight-set win, 6-2, 6-1.
No. 79-ranked sophomore Amanda Meyer opened up her singles play debut by taking on Daniela Pedraza Novak. Meyer fell short in the first set, 4-6, but picked up speed in the second set to earn a 6-4 win. Maintaining her momentum, the sophomore clinched the third set and the match in a 7-5 win.
In doubles play, the Dores saw two victories against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
Starting doubles off strong, duo Christina Rosca and Emily Smith battled against Deacon duo Chandler Carter and Peyton Pesavento, shutting out the pair in a 6-0 defeat.
Amanda Meyer and Emma Kurtz were among the victorious Dore duos competing against Wake Forest’s Mary Meredith and Eliza Omiou, clinching the match win, 7-6(9).
The Dores hit the courts again this upcoming weekend when five Commodores travel to the Oracle/ITA Fall Championship in Surprise, Arizona.
