RALEIGH, N.C. – The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team defeated Furman 5-0 to advance to tomorrow’s championship against NC State. The winner of Sunday’s match will play in the 2023 ITA National Team Indoors Championships.
Vandy started the afternoon winning the doubles point. No. 55 Celia-Belle Mohr and Anessa Lee finished first, extending their doubles win streak to seven. Anna Ross and Holly Staff clinched the point for Vandy with their victory over Furman’s Jess Dawson and Sara Snyder. The Dores swept the singles field with wins from Mohr, Lee, Marcella Cruz and Bridget Stammel counting toward the final score.
“It was a stupendous start for the Dores in Raleigh today. After a hard-fought doubles point, I’m proud of how our team came out in singles, jumping out to leads on all six courts,” head coach Aleke Tsoubanos said. “We are very excited for an opportunity to play one of the top teams in the country in NC State tomorrow and I expect it to be a highly competitive match with a chance to advance to Seattle on the line.”
