NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt won both seven-inning games of the David Williams Fall Classic against Murray State on Friday night at Hawkins Field.
The Commodores won the first game 7-1 and the second game 10-1. Vandy belted five home runs across the two contests, two coming off the bat of Brodie Johnston.
The Dores scored seven runs on five hits in the first seven innings. Four of the five knocks left the yard. Johnston, Logan Johnstone and Ryker Waite each hit solo homers and Rustan Rigdon hit a three-run shot.
Austin Nye and Connor Fennell threw two innings each to start Game 1, holding the Racers to one hit. Luke Guth also went two innings allowing one run which was unearned.
The offense exploded for 10 runs in the first two innings of Game 2, scoring five times in each frame. Johnston hit his second homer of the evening, a grand slam. He finished the two games with six RBI on two hits.
Cade Sears and Tommy Goodin each registered two RBI in the second game and Sears scored twice. Carter Johnstone doubled and scored twice as well.
Vanderbilt used eight arms on the mound in Game 2. The staff limited Murray State to one run on 3 hits.
