Vandy sweeps Aggies, 4-0

The second-ranked Vanderbilt women’s tennis team picked up a 4-0 sweep over the 33rd-ranked Texas A&M Aggies.

With the victory, the Commodores improve to 16-3 overall and 9-1 in Southeastern Conference play. Vanderbilt now boasts 14 ranked victories on the season.

Vanderbilt began its second-to-last home match of the regular season, snagging the tandems point in swift victories on courts two then three. Amanda Meyer and Christina Rosca limited A&M’s Riley McQuaid and Tatiana Makarova to one game in their 6-1 doubles victory. Fernanda Contreras and Summer Dvorak clinched the point advantage in a 6-2 win over the Aggies’ Macarena Olivares/Dorthea Faa-Hviding.

The Commodores carried doubles momentum into singles play, taking first sets on all six courts.

No. 118 Meyer was first off the court in singles play, giving VU its 2-0 lead. The freshman out of Delray Beach, Fla. earned her fifth SEC victory of the season in a 6-3, 6-1 win over Riley McQuaid.

Vandy secured the 3-0 lead on court three. No. 40 Christina Rosca picked up an efficient 6-2, 6-2 win over Eva Paalma. With the victory, Rosca rides a four-match winning streak.

Vanderbilt’s Dvorak came through with the clinch as the junior handed Iulia Ivascu a 6-1, 6-3 loss.

Vanderbilt hosts LSU on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the team’s final home match of the regular season. VU will honor seniors Payton Robinette and Astra Sharma prior to first serve, with Senior Day festivities beginning at 10:50 a.m.
