NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt run-ruled Eastern Kentucky 10-0 in eight innings Tuesday night at Hawkins Field.
With the win, the Commodores improve to 16-0 at home in 2025, the best start to a season at home in program history. Vandy has won its last five home midweek games by run-rule, outscoring opponents 65-6 in those five contests.
Rustan Rigdon led the Vanderbilt offense on Tuesday with four hits including the walk-off single in the eighth to put the Dores up by 10. Rigdon doubled, drove in a pair of runs and scored once.
Austin Nye got the start and went 4.0 scoreless innings, allowing one hit while striking out four. Levi Huesman earned the win with a perfect fifth inning. Brennan Seiber tossed two frames, giving up one hit and England Bryan struck out three in a scoreless eighth frame.
Brodie Johnston put Vandy on the scoreboard with a solo home run in the bottom of the first, his fifth of the season.
The Commodores pulled away in the fourth with a five-run frame. Riley Nelson was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and Colin Barczi followed with a double. Mac Rose picked up an RBI and advanced both runners on a groundout.
After Braden Holcomb worked a walk, Rigdon doubled off the wall in left to score Barczi. David Mendez walked to load the bases and RJ Austin was hit by a pitch to bring home Holcomb. Two more runs came in on a fielder’s choice and an error to make it 6-0, Vanderbilt.
Mike Mancini singled to lead off the bottom of the sixth, one of two hits on the night for the second baseman. Austin then laced a double to score Mancini from second after Mancini stole the bag.
RJ Hamilton drew a walk to start off the bottom of the eighth. He took second and third on wild pitches before scoring on a balk. Nelson walked and Rose singled through the left side to put runners on the corners.
Holcomb reached on an error with Nelson scoring to make it 9-0. Rigdon then lined a single to right, allowing Rose to come home and end the game at 10-0.
The Commodores continue their homestand with a three-game series against No. 2 Arkansas at Hawkins Field beginning Friday.
