No. 13 Vandy Holds Off Memphis

Commodores claim 77-70 road win in overtime

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — It took an extra five minutes, but No. 13 Vanderbilt earned a hard-fought road win over Memphis, 77-70, in overtime on Wednesday night in FedExForum.

Vanderbilt (11-0) got a game-high 22 points from Duke Miles who poured in 12 at the charity stripe. Tyler Tanner added 16 and Jalen Washington 14 to help the Dores stave off the Tigers. Miles also snagged a season-high six steals while Tanner notched four.

The Commodores are 11-0 for just the fourth time in program history.

Vanderbilt overcame an ice-cold shooting night, hitting just 32.3 percent from the floor and 19.4 percent from three. It was the Commodores’ lowest shooting percentage since 2022 and the lowest mark in a win since 2014. Vandy also fell victim to the turnover bug, committing 20 on the night. Wednesday marked just the fifth time in the past 30 seasons the Dores have won with 20 or more turnovers.

Memphis (4-6) was paced by Dug McDaniel and Sincere Parker with 18 points apiece. Hasan Abdul-Hakim added 13 and Tariq Ingraham 11 for the Tigers. Vanderbilt limited Memphis to just 35.9 percent from the floor and 4-of-20 from three. The Dores forced 20 Tiger turnovers with 16 steals.

The Tigers used a 10-0 run midway through the second half to take a 44-40 lead with 12 minutes to play. The run helped erase an 11-point Vanderbilt advantage early in the half. The Dores clawed back in front at the final media timeout behind a Tanner and-one, but Memphis tied the game with 6.4 seconds on the clock to force overtime.

In the extra frame, Vanderbilt used a 9-0 run to take control with most of the damage coming at the free throw line. The Dores hit 11-of-13 from the stripe in overtime to seal the 77-70 victory.

Vanderbilt continues its road swing with a trip to Wake Forest on Sunday. Tipoff with the Demon Deacons is set for 1 p.m. ET/Noon CT on The CW.
