NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team wrapped up the second day of the Miami Invitational going 9-1. The Commodores went 3-1 in doubles over Texas early in the day and finished going 5-1 against Memphis in singles play.
Vandy played well against the Longhorns in doubles play. Lauren Mira and Georgina Sellyn, and Frances Altick and Astra Sharmaboth won by scores of 6-3, while Sydney Campbell and Courtney Colton were taken down by Texas’ 21st-ranked doubles team.
Ashleigh Antal and partner Marie Casareshad a tougher time but came out victorious, 7-5, over UT”s Begley and Koprcina.
In singles play, the `Dores won four of their five matches in straight sets. The lone Commodore loss came to No. 78 Campbell, who fell 3-6, 7-5, 10-6 to Marta Morga of Memphis.
No. 102 Antal won 6-3, 6-4 over Memphis’ Skylar Kuykendall, while Vandy’s top-ranked singles player, No. 48 Sellyn took down Alyssa Hibberd, 6-1, 6-2.
Altick, Casares and Colton also all picked up wins over the Tigers.
Vanderbilt will resume action from Coral Gables at 8 a.m. eastern time, with doubles against Miami and will continue the day with singles against the Longhorns.
