Vandy Falls in SEC Quarterfinals

No. 34 Celia-Belle Mohr defeated No. 2 Mary Stoiana

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The No. 34 Vanderbilt women’s tennis fell to No. 2 Texas A&M 4-1 on Friday, ending their SEC Women’s Tennis Championship tournament run.

Celia-Belle Mohr and Marcella Cruz defeated No. 25 Jayci Goldsmith and Salma Ewing 6-2 on Court 1, the second consecutive match Mohr and Cruz have won against ranked opponents. On Court 2 and Court 3, the Dores battled hard, but ultimately the Aggies took the doubles point.

In singles, Mohr took down No. 2 Mary Stoiana in two sets to put the Dores on the board. The Aggies picked up points on Court 2 and Court 5, but Vanderbilt stayed in the game with the remaining matches advancing to third sets. Texas A&M clinched the match on Court 5 in the third set.

The Dores will now await a potential bid to the NCAA Regionals, which will take place May 5–7.
