WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Vanderbilt women’s tennis doubles team of Ashleigh Antal and Marie Casares fell in the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Doubles Championship match Monday morning at the Schwartz Tennis Center.
The Commodore duo took on the No. 1 seed pair from Tennessee, Brynn Boren and Kata Szekely. Antal and Casares just could not get in a rhythm as they fell 6-0, 6-1.
Overall, Antal and Casares went 4-1 in doubles matches over the entire weekend and a combined 5-2 in singles matches.
Vanderbilt assistant coach Aleke Tsoubanos was pleased with the duo’s weekend as a whole.
“Give credit to Tennessee, they played a very good, disciplined match,” Tsoubanos said. “It wasn’t our finest hour and I know we are disappointed in ourselves, but they had a great run to reach this point.”
The singles champion will also come from Tennessee, as Boren and Szekely play each other for the championship.
“The goal now is to build on some of the matches we played here in the regional and finish strong at Memphis in two weeks,” Tsoubanos said.
Vanderbilt will travel to Memphis, Tenn., for the Memphis Invitational Nov. 2-4, for the final competition of the fall season.
