GAINESVILLE, Fla. — No. 5 Vanderbilt dropped the series finale 6-2 at No. 7 Florida on Sunday afternoon at Condron Ballpark.
Florida opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with a two-run home run by Wyatt Langford. The Gators loaded the bases with one out on two walks and a single, but Vanderbilt reliever Bryce Cunningham was able to limit the damage with a groundout and an inning-ending strikeout as only one more run came home.
The Gators extended their lead to 4-0 on a one-run double with two outs in the bottom of the fourth.
A one-out RBI single in the bottom of the fifth off the bat of BT Riopelle made it 5-0, Florida.
Vanderbilt entered the scoring column in the top of the seventh. Chris Maldonado was hit by a pitch and RJ Austin reached on an infield single with two outs. Pinch-hitter Troy LaNeve lined an RBI single to left-center to score Maldonado from second.
Florida went back in front by five on a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh.
Alan Espinal led off the top of the eighth with a double to the wall in center. Espinal advanced to third on a groundout and then scored on an RBI groundout by Davis Diaz.
Vanderbilt returns home to host Middle Tennessee at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Hawkins Field with action airing on SECN+.
