HOUSTON, Texas
The Commodores fell short against both the Houston Cougars and Arkansas Razorbacks at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Natatorium, falling 131-36 to Houston and 137-30 to Arkansas in the first day of two Friday afternoon.
Vanderbilt continued their strong racing in relays this season, as the 200-yard freestyle relay team took a fourth-place finish in the final event of the meet. The team was made up of a bulk of seniors, and Head Coach Jeremy Organ was pleased their effort.
“There are some things we have to work on, but the seniors really showed up and that’s a positive we can take away today.” Organ said.
Organ was also pleased with senior Brenda Cha‘s performance. Cha was a member of the 200-yard freestyle relay and took fourth in the 50-yardfreestyle as well. Cha missed out on a top-three finish in the 50 freestyle by one one-hundredth of a second.
“She got up and raced well today,” Organ said. “She got after it right after the start and had a great finish, and that’s what you need in the 50.”
Fellow senior Breanna Sapienza also had a good race in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing fourth.
Lara Hernandez-Tome represented the freshman class well with a fourth place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle, an event the Commodores have been swimming very well in this season.
“Lara’s 1,000 free was a great race, she really put it together,” Organ said.
The Commodores are back in the CWRC Natatorium Saturday morning as they face Arkansas and Houston for a second time in as many days.
“Today was a rough day, but there were some good things that happened,” Organ said. “We’ve got to individually step up and be more competitive in the races that we should be.”
