The Vanderbilt women’s tennis had another successful outing on the courts during the second day of the June Stewart Invitational. Due to inclement the `Dores continued playing inside the Currey Tennis Center.
The Commodores carried on the simultaneous format adopted Friday, with teams playing four singles and one doubles match at the same time. This continues the trend of trying various formats, as Friday teams played three singles and two doubles matches instantaneously.
Vanderbilt kicked off day two of the tournament in the second round. Vandy picked up three out of four wins in singles, but fell in round two doubles, 6-3, 6-1.
In round four, Courtney Colton finished the day battling against Arizona State’s Panoho 7-5, 7-6(1). Colton capitalized on her serve during the tiebreak, delivering several aces and which proved too much for the Sun Devils. The Commodores went 5-3 in singles overall with two singles matches going to a third set tiebreak.
The final day of the June Stewart Invitational begins inside the Currey Tennis Center Sunday morning at 9 a.m. CT.
