Vandy comes up short on final day of National Indoors

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team fell to No. 13 Clemson, 4-0, on the final day of action at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, Sunday, at the Boar’s Head Sports Complex in Charlottesville, Va.

Vanderbilt got down quickly, losing the doubles point to the 13th-ranked Tigers. Georgina Sellyn and Frances Altick dropped their match, 6-3, at No. 3 doubles. Shortly after Vandy’s No. 1 team of Lauren Mira and Ashleigh Antal fell, 6-4.

The Commodores didn’t fair much better in singles play, losing two quick matches at No. 1 and No. 6 to fall into a 3-0 hole. Mira, lost 0 and 0 at No. 1 to 74th-ranked Yana Koroleva, meanwhile, Antal fell 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6.

The match was clinched at No. 2 singles, as Courtney Colton was knocked off by No. 44 Beatrice Gumulay, 6-2, 6-2.

When the match was clinched three matches went unfinished. At No. 3 singles, Sellyn was tied 9-9 in the third set tiebreak. At No. 4 singles, Altick was leading 6-1, 3-4, and at No. 5 singles, Marie Casares was leading 6-4, 3-2.

Vanderbilt will be back in action this weekend with road matches against Baylor and Texas.
