NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt women’s tennis concluded its first weekend of Southeastern Conference play with a 6-1 win over Ole Miss Sunday afternoon at the Currey Tennis Center.
The Commodores got off to a quick start as Chelsea Preeg and Jackie Wu picked up an 8-0 win in the No. 2 doubles match. The Rebels evened things up as Connor Vogel and Gabby Rangel defeated Rachael Dillon and Alex Leatu, 8-6, in the No. 1 match. The tie was short lived as Lauren Mira and Keilly Ulery clinched the doubles point for Vanderbilt with an 8-4 win on court three.
Vanderbilt went ahead 2-0 when Leatu picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win over Vogel in the No. 1 match. Preeg gave the ‘Dores a 3-0 advantage when she won her eighth consecutive match with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Abby Guthrie in the No. 3 match.
Vivian Vlaar put Ole Miss on the board with a 7-6(4), 6-3 win over Ulery on court five, but Wu quickly countered with a 7-5, 6-2 win in the No. 2 match to clinch the victory for Vanderbilt. Mira and Dillon capped off the afternoon with victories on courts four and six. Mira was up 1-0 in the second set tiebreaker when her opponent withdrew from the match, and Dillon cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Gabby Rangel.
The Commodores return to action next weekend when they travel to Georgia and Tennessee on Friday and Sunday.
