NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt used 18 hits to run-rule Tennessee Tech 15-5 in eight innings Tuesday night at Hawkins Field.
The Commodores matched their season high in the hits column and put up double-digit runs for the 12th time this season.
Mike Mancini and Ryker Waite tallied three hits each and all nine starters had at least one base knock. Waite laced two doubles and a triple and Mancini drove in three runs.
On the mound, Vanderbilt used six arms and held the Golden Eagles to four earned runs. Nate Schlote picked up his second collegiate win. Schlote, Tristan Bristow, Nate Teague and Tyler Baird went one inning each without allowing an earned run.
Tennessee Tech and Vanderbilt traded punches early with the visitors taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
The Dores scored three in the bottom of the second but the Golden Eagles plated one run in the third and took a 4-3 lead in the fourth with a pair of runs.
Vandy again put three runs on the board in the fourth to retake the lead and used five in the fifth to pull away. The Commodores scored built a 13-5 lead after six innings and scored two more in the eighth to win by run-rule.
Cade Sears registered his first hit as a Commodore with an RBI single in the eighth to bring Logan Johnstone to the plate. Johnstone then ripped an RBI single through the right side to end the game.
Vanderbilt improves to 14-12 on the season and will host No. 21 Tennessee for a three-game series at Hawkins Field beginning Friday.
