ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Vanderbilt swimming earned a first-place finish in an event final and set two personal records in an exciting Day 2 of the CSCAA National Invitational from Lejeune Hall in Annapolis, Md.

Lara Hernandez-Tome touched the wall first in the B-final of the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:26.89, besting her preliminary time by nearly three seconds. The finals victory also beat her previous best of 4:27.23, set at the Phil Hansel Invitational in Houston in November 2017.

“We’re really happy for Lara with the win and her best time,” said head coach Jeremy Organ. “This is all part of the process, getting a best time gives you a lot of confidence moving forward.”

Madison Eaker set the other personal-best for the Commodores with a 55.26 in the preliminary race of the 100-yard backstroke. She finished the A-final of the event in 55.45.

Joanna Goldblatt and Kate Hornaday raced in the 100 back as well Friday, earning times of 58.82 and 58.88, respectively. Namilla Sanchez was the lone Vandy representative in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing in 1:51.55.

Sophie Halper joined Sanchez, Hernandez-Tome and Goldblatt in the final relay event of the season of the Dores, as the 800-yard freestyle relay team touched the wall in 7:40.87.

“Overall, this was a great, fun day,” Organ said. “This gives us a lot of excitement to get into the third day, we’re ready to get up and go.”
