NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt women’s swim team is in the Endless Pools/Collegeswimming.com performance rankings following its fourth place finish this past weekend at the Georgia Tech Invitational. The Commodores are ranked 46th of 50 schools, with 928.9 points, in the bi-weekly poll.
The ranking accounts for teams’ top performances over the preceding month and is the only objective ranking of swimming for NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, NAIA, and NJCAA. The rankings utilize a new point system based on a 1,100 point scale. The new scale uses NCAA time standards and a percentile ranking of all times over the past four years.
The Commodores are ranked just .5 points behind Alabama and 5.1 points behind South Carolina. The remaining SEC teams are ranked in the top 25. Florida, Georgia and Texas A&M hold down second, third and fourth, respectively.
Vanderbilt was led this weekend by the efforts of junior Elly Faulkner. Faulkner, a Louisville, Ky., native set three school records over the course of the weekend. She sits in the top 25 of the conference in the 100 and 200 breaststroke.
Along with Faulkner, Chrissy Oberg sits in the top 25 in the 100 and 200 backstrokes, while freshman Kayla Moran is in the top 50 of the 50 free and 100 and 200 fly.
