Vanderbilt — Middle Tennessee State Postgame Quotes
Floyd Stadium
Vanderbilt Head Coach Derek Mason
On Middle Tennessee:
“I tell you what, I have to give credit to Middle Tennessee. Coach Stockstill has a great footballteam. They are competitive and played hard for four quarters.”
On the game:
“This was an ugly football game with the turnovers and miscues. We had an inability to convertoffensively on third down and defensively to get off the field. They gave us a great ball game, but at theend of the day, our football team grew up tonight. It was the first road win since I have been here andthat’s huge for this young football team.”
MTSU Head Coach Rick Stockstill
On tough loss against Vandy:
“It was disappointing. We had a chance to put it away and just weren’t able to do it. I’m really proud of our team and how they fought and competed. We’ll struggle until we can run the ball. Give Vanderbilt credit, we missed a couple tackles. We’ve had two tough, gut-wrenching games back-to-back, but we still have a chance to reach our goals. This one hurts equally as much as last week.”
On Vandy rushing attempts:“We did a nice job for the most part defensively until the last drive. Give them credit, they did a nice job.”
On no running back formations:
“We had some drops early in the game. We’re throwing the ball well, we’re just struggling running the ball and not doing a very good job blocking up front right now.”
On leaving points out there:
“You never wanna kick field goals, you want to score touchdowns. We did good things, just didn’t finish the game tonight.”
DB Kevin Byard
On tying the school record for interceptions in a career:
“Honestly, I really couldn’t care less about the interception deal. I’m more upset we lost the game. We’ve got to come back tomorrow and get back to work.”
On Vandy’s fourth quarter offense:
“The quarterback made a few plays with his feet keeping the play alive. They also got a couple lucky bounces, but we busted a few coverages and lost some leverageþ I definitely put the game on us.
On moving into conference play:
“The conference schedule starts next week. Every game from now on counts. I mentally have to get this bad taste out of my mouth by watching tape tomorrow before I can focus on Western Kentucky.”
