Vanderbilt Notes vs. Mississippi State

– Vanderbilt now holds a 74-43 advantage in the all-time series against Mississippi State, and narrowed Mississippi State’s lead in neutral-site games to 7-6.
– Head coach Kevin Stallings improved to 7-8 against Mississippi State.
Brad Tinsley hit a three-pointer with 13:42 remaining in the first half to extend Vanderbilt’s consecutive game streak with a three-point basket to 794.
– Vanderbilt moves to 32-49 all-time at the SEC Tournament in their 50th overall appearance. The Commodores are now 9-12 all-time in SEC Tournament games held in Georgia and 7-9 in games played at the Georgia Dome.
– Stallings moves to 7-10 all-time in the SEC Tournament.
– In their fourth ever appearance and fifth overall game as the number three seed in the East, Vanderbilt’s record moves to 3-3 all-time. The Commodores are now 4-8 all-time in the quarterfinals since the league went to two divisions in 1992.
– Vanderbilt’s 87 points is the most in an SEC Tournament game since the first round of the 2008 tournament (93-82 win over Auburn).
– The Commodores shot 50.0% from the field against Mississippi State (28-56), the 12th time this season VU has shot 50% or better (10-2). The Bulldogs made 50.8% of their shots from the floor (32-63) and 47.4% from three (9-19).
– Vanderbilt shot 56.3% from the floor in the second half. That’s the 23rd time this season VU has shot 50% or better in a half. – VU was 11-23 from three (47.8%) – the 11 threes is the second-most threes made in a game against an SEC team this season (12 at Georgia, 2/16). Vanderbilt is now 20-4 on the season when making more threes than their opponents.
– VU committed only five turnovers against Mississippi State. The five turnovers is a new season-low.
– Vanderbilt converted on 20-of-22 free throws against Mississippi State (90.9%). – Mississippi State outrebounded Vanderbilt, 35-25, and 14-8 on the offensive glass.
– The Commodores outscored Mississippi State, 13-7, in points off of turnovers and 6-0 in fast break points. The Bulldogs outscored VU, 34-24, in the paint, 12-7 in second-chance points, and 12-10 in bench points.

Player Notes vs. Mississippi State
John Jenkins scored 29 points on 10-17 shooting and 5-9 shooting from beyond-the-arc. The 29 points is the second-highest single-game total by a Commodore player this year.
Jeffery Taylor tacked on 20 points and added four assists.
– The game against the Bulldogs was the first with two players in double figures since February 19, 2011 in a win over Auburn (Jeffery Taylor, 20; John Jenkins, 22).
– The Commodores are now 17-2 in games in which Taylor scores 15 or more points.
– Jenkins’ 29 points is his 18th 20+-point game of the season and 20th of his career.
– Taylor’s 20 points is his sixth of the season and 10th of his career.
– Taylor has averaged 20.5 points in the two 2011 SEC Tournament games.
Brad Tinsley scored 12 points and had six assists. It was his 16th 5-assist game of the season and 26th of his career.
– Ezeli had two blocks against Mississippi State. He the Commodores’ all-time single-season blocks leader with 85, and now has 150 blocks in his career.
